Education and Genuine Passion Essay Describe the skills or attributes you believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher. From my own personal experience in order to be an outstanding teacher, an individual must possess the following qualities: a genuine passion for teaching, knowledgeable not only in their content area of teaching, but also in various types of learning styles, including knowledge of social and emotional barriers to learning, and they must be creative in their teaching style. If one doesn’t have a genuine passion for teaching, they become a disservice to the youth since they won’t put forth the effort and dedication that is needed to teach up to 6 different class periods a day. A teacher must be able to identify and have positive corrective measures when working with youth with social and emotional behaviors. Professional development in this area is critical to a student’s success in the classroom. Lastly, the proliferation of social media and technology should change the way educators teach, since the average student today is constantly using technology. How would you address a wide range of skills in your classroom? One of the classes that I used to teach was Spanish, there were a wide range of skills when it came to comprehension. For the most part, I had to design a curriculum, which had to include modifications for students with educational, social, and behavioral disorders. For example, some students were allowed extra time on their exams or assignments, grading was modified based on the work the student turned in, and classroom seating was designed to address the variations of skills. Often times, I noticed the class would be more engaged in group settings after I designated a leader and assigned tasks to each student according to their skill level. Extra credit would be assigned in the beginning of each semester for students who read a number of books that I assigned. From my own personal experience in order to be an outstanding administrator, an individual must possess the following qualities: a genuine passion for teaching, knowledgeable not only in their content area of teaching, but also in various types of learning styles, including knowledge  of social and emotional barriers to learning, they must be able to motivate their team and promote professional development, and the must be able to make sound decisions. If one doesnt have a genuine passion for teaching, they become a disservice to the youth since they won’t put forth the effort and dedication that is needed to lead. An excellent administrator must be able to identify and have positive corrective measures when working with youth with social and emotional behaviors. Professional development in this area is critical to a student’s success in the classroom. The proliferation of social media and technology should change the way educators teach, since the average student today is constantly using technology. Technology is very important in education, teachers can use technology to maximize student learning. Using computers, videos, and other kinds of technology makes lessons more interesting and more fun. For example, I used to teach a class called Scholar Learning Community, one of my assignments included a demonstration speech that had to be presented in from of the class. Students were encouraged to video tape their presentations, a large number of them posted their videos on YouTube. This encouraged the other students to do the same as their friends were able to view their videos. It also makes it ? easier to teach students with varying needs. A co 1. One of my duties as a Student ; Family Advisor involved recruitment for the program, at times this duty was a bit of a challenge considering other responsibilities that the position entailed. These responsibilities were shared between myself and another co-worker. Part of our program requirement was that we were at 80% enrollment each month. Our enrollment figures were based on the number of enrolled and pending referrals that were received each month. A large number of these referrals derived from recruitment efforts. Apparently, my co-worker wasnt pulling their weight in this area, I gently convinced them to attend a presentation that I was giving to a DCFS agency so that she can learn from my style of organizing and presenting the program to agencies. I found out during our outing, that she seemed to lack the organization in her presentation and just needed a few pointers and assurance in her recruitment efforts. Our enrollment number increased as a result. Works with student in planning and implementing an Individualized Optional Education Plan (IOEP) . Plans instructional program for student based on historical transcript, assessment data and current IOEP. Maintains current and accurate records of attendance and academic progress of students. Meets regularly with students and consults with instructors and parents in order to assess progress toward academic providing direction and assistance as necessary. Works with Student Development Coordinator in regards to student activities related to academic goals as well as provides guidance in response to request from Student Development Coordinator in areas of student behavior and personal growth. Conducts seminars and workshops for students in any/all of the following areas: college matriculation, career readiness and personal growth. Performs related duties as assigned by the Principal. I have 9 years of what I would call,front line experience. This term is usually referred to from soldiers fighting in a war zone. I guess I can say that I was in the front lines along with other professionals that fight hard to take back the lives Chicagos youth through education. I served as a Student ; Family Advisor with the City Colleges of Chicago. I was assigned to operate a program that was funded by DCFS to recruit and retain the youth in the high school program (YS3). My number one goal was to ensure their graduation. I provided intense academic advisement to 20 students, along with other duties as assigned.

Free Essay on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain's novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, describes a young boy torn between what he feels for his country and what society expects of him and what his heart tells him is right. Huck Finn, faces many situations forcing him to deal with decisions that carry with them the ability to bring about change. Huck begins searching for an identity which is truly his own. In determining his self image, Huck deals with conforming to the social norms and freedom, trying on different identities that do not belong to him, and shaping these new found tributes into an identity which best suits his conscience. Throughout the book, Huck rejects "sivilized" life because he has no reason for it. All that civilization has brought for him was bad things. He meets many people and they all try to influence him to change his ways to what they see is right. Pretty soon, he does not want to deal with any of it and just wants to live a life of adventure and fun. The novel begins with Hu ck under the care of Widow Douglas as "she took me for her son, and allowed that she would civilize me; but it was rough living in the house all the time." (p. 11) Huck has become so used to being free that he sees the Widow Douglas' protection solely in terms of confinement. He finds this impossible because he loses his freedom amongst "the bars and shackles of civilization." Huck feels that he belongs out under the stars where the community cannot tell him what to do. His drunken and often missing father has never paid much attention to him; his mother is dead and so, when the novel begins, Huck is not used to following any rules. At the beginning of the book, Huck is living with the Widow Douglas and her sister, Miss Watson. Both women are fairly old and are really incapable of raising a rebellious boy like Huck Finn. They attempt to make Huck into what they believe will be a better boy, as Huck says, to "sivilize" him. They do this by making Huck go to school, teach ing him about different religions, and making him act in a way that the women find socially acceptable, which means no more smoking. 1. 5 The translator In the context of translation studies, it is assumed that to do a satisfactory translation, the translator must be aware not only of the texts in hand, but also the physical world and the culture in which the texts are formed initially. This implies that the translator should be acquainted with the everyday life in the source location and that his or her activity is not simply a manipulation of linguistic figures or data. The translator handling medical texts do not have to be trained as doctors, nurses or other medical staff, however it is essential that he or she understands the entire connected implication: the linguistic, medical, social, and also cultural context in which he or she happens to work. This can be done by having sufficient knowledge of the world. Numerous problems occur when doctors and patients use different languages or even different varieties of the same language. It has been rightly pointed out by Tanner that, in addition to emotional and other unrelated aspects, the simplicity of contact in a doctor-patient discourse depends on how well and precisely the parties express themselves. The clarity of speech constitutes an indispensable requirement for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. This is the point at which translation and interpreting come into the picture. Translation is defined by Catfords as: ‘The replacement of the textual material in one language, [the source language] by equivalent textual material in another language, [the target language]’. Despite the fact that the definition is dated in numerous contexts, it still has a bearing on textual materials in the field of medicine, despite of the language pair involved. As hinted, the translator is a kind of creator the moment he or she bridges language gaps and renders a source text in the target language: he or she generates the precise form of the target language message and with the aim of doing so; he or she must be competent in both, source and target, languages. Medical communication has its specific nature. The terminology used in the medical sector, in regards to Catford’s statement, often requires clear renditions and lexical equivalents. This indicates that the translator may come across with the phrases and terms in the source language that exclude an entire transfer of information from the source to the target language. In this case, when patterns or meanings between the languages differ, the term ‘untranslatability’ could be applied. Mohanty observed: ‘the process of transfer is limited in terms of time and space: it is mostly individual; straddling two languages at the same time, this is where we find the phenomenon of untranslatability; it is not part of neither static, nor dynamic texts in the source or target language, but something which turns up exclusively when two language systems meet in the transfer of a text. Untranslatability is part of the process, of the assessment of the process of transfer. ’

Analysis Of Vincent Van Gogh s Life - 1414 Words

Vincent van Gogh lived more than 115 years ago, and yet his artwork is still changing the way society views beauty, character, and style in art. His works are recognized all across the globe for their rich colors and his extraordinary style of painting. Those who lived in the time of Van Gogh would have preferred a realistic drawing or an abstract painting not both as one piece. Van Gogh based his art off of his life which was filled with despair, childhood troubles and mental disabilities. Despite these misfortunes he continued to follow his dream of being a successful artist. At the age of 37 Vincent’s career as an artist ended and his legacy began. Unbeknownst to him, his legacy would live on for countless years and he would go on to inspire several artists and movements. Vincent was born in Zundert, a small village in the Netherlands on March 30th, 1853 which was a year to the day his parents had a still-born son who had also been named Vincent. Vincent always felt the pressure to live up to what the deceased Vincent should have been.
